In addition to the tours below, in Far North Queensland we offer a number of day tours either out of Cassowary House, our Birdwatchers and Naturalists Lodge sited in World Heritage Rainforest in the cooler hills on the edge of the Atherton Tablelands above Cairns or from your Cairns hotel. Short tours in the local area are available at short notice if guides are free. A selection of our local area tours can be seen by clicking the Cairns Area button but feel free to contact us for customised tours, group rates etc.

The south-west Corner of Western Australia

A chance to visit this endemic rich area with an expert and experienced guide. Starting from Perth we travel down the coast at Cape Naturaliste before heading inland to the karri forests around Manjimup. Further south we thoroughly explore the Albany area before making our way up into the Stirling Ranges and returning to Perth via the unique Dryandra Forest. This week long tour targets the endemics and speciality birds of this interesting area.

For those seeking a bit of adventure and something more than just a birding trip, this is a chance to travel up the Strzelecki track and into the Channel country with renowned desert bushman Rex Ellis. This tour will begin in Adelaide and travel up to Lyndhurst before heading into the desert along the Strzelecki Track. Visiting the small township of Innamincka the tour will incorporate a visit to the Coongie Lakes, a wetland area that can act as a magnet for waterbirds in the desert. Continuing on, past the historic Burke and Wills dig tree, the tour will continue into the Channel Country with its unique avifauna. Bowra Station will be our base here before we head back down through Thargomindah and Noccundra to Cameron Corner and rejoin the Strzelecki near Merty Merty.

This is a tour for those who enjoy, or would like to experience, desert camping. and who would like to visit a part of Australia not usually on the tourist trail. Rex is an expert on desert camping with many years of experience behind him. He is a fount of information about the desert and has written and published several books on the subject. he is interested in all aspects of desert life, the natural world and the people who have chosen to live in. Expect much more than a straight birding tour. Evenings around the campfire under the clear starlit sky are always something to look forward to and something you will remember for ever.

A new tour taking advantage of the newly developed Birds Australia programme training indigenous guides and looking at the area from a completely different viewpoint. Guy has been one of the team working on this project and this will be one of the first tours to take advantage of it.

Seabird Special

A short tour for seabird enthusiasts. We visit Lord Howe Island where the spectacular Balls Pyramid is home to some very significant seabird species and then return to Sydney in time for a two night deep water pelagic out of Wollongong which goes beyond the continental shelf.
